More about Armenia:

Armenia is the capital of the Quindío Department in the Coffee Triangle region of Colombia. Known as one of the primary coffee-growing areas in the country, Armenia boasts a rich history and culture deeply intertwined with coffee production. This city, nestled in the Andean mountains, is a significant hub for the Colombian coffee industry.

The Coffee Triangle, or “Eje Cafetero,” includes the departments of Caldas, Risaralda, and Quindío. Armenia, located in Quindío, benefits from the region’s ideal conditions for coffee cultivation.

Coffee in Armenia is typically grown at elevations ranging from 1,200 to 2,000 meters above sea level. This high altitude contributes to the beans’ complex flavours. The region experiences a temperate climate with an average temperature of 18-22°C (64-72°F). This consistent, mild climate is perfect for coffee cultivation. The volcanic soil in the region is rich in nutrients, providing an excellent growing medium for coffee plants.

Many coffee farms in Armenia use shade-grown techniques, planting coffee under a canopy of trees. This method preserves biodiversity and enhances the coffee’s flavour. Further, the region emphasizes sustainable farming practices, including organic farming and fair trade certifications, ensuring environmentally friendly and ethically produced coffee.

Coffee is more than just a crop in Armenia; it is a vital part of the local culture and economy. The region hosts numerous coffee festivals and fairs, celebrating the coffee harvest and the traditions surrounding it. Coffee tours and farm visits are popular, allowing visitors to experience the coffee-making process firsthand.

The coffee from Armenia has always stood out for its high quality, unique flavour profile, and sustainable farming practices. The region’s ideal growing conditions, combined with traditional and modern agricultural techniques, make this one of our favourite regions to purchase from.
